WeReload’s Experience at Rubik Hub: A Turning Point for Our Startup

Our journey at Rubik Hub marked a significant turning point for WeReload. It was the first startup accelerator we participated in, and it laid the foundation for the product we are proud of today. Initially, our idea was to create an app for recharging prepaid phone cards, but during the program, we pivoted to something bigger: an eSIM solution that addresses global connectivity challenges. This shift in focus was transformative and helped us find our true market potential.

One of the most impactful moments during the program was when we were awarded the “Best Startup” prize. This recognition gave us the confidence to continue pushing forward, knowing that we were on the right track. The feedback and mentorship we received at Rubik Hub were instrumental in guiding us through our pivot and refining our product vision.

Alin Bucsai, co-founder of WeReload, reflects on the significance of Rubik Hub for the team:
“Rubik Hub was where we found our focus. The program pushed us to challenge our initial assumptions and look at the bigger picture. Winning ‘Best Startup’ was the validation we needed to know we were on the right path, and it gave us the motivation to take our idea to the next level.”

Team Growth and Product Evolution

Rubik Hub wasn’t just about redefining our product; it was also where we expanded our team. During the program, we were fortunate to recruit two new members to our development team. Their expertise helped accelerate the development process, and together we built the technical foundation for the WeReload app that you see today.

Marcel, co-founder at WeReload, describes how joining Rubik Hub shaped the technical side of the project: “Being part of Rubik Hub allowed us to bring in fresh talent, which was crucial for scaling the app’s infrastructure. With the new members on board, we could focus on building a more complex and reliable product. The accelerator’s hands-on approach helped us tackle technical challenges head-on.”

The mentorship at Rubik Hub was invaluable in refining both our business model and our technical execution. With the help of mentors and industry experts, we learned to navigate the challenges of scaling a tech startup. The program’s structure encouraged us to constantly iterate on our ideas, leading to the creation of a seamless and easy-to-use eSIM app that has since gained thousands of users.

The Pivot to eSIM Technology

Our pivot from a prepaid card app to an eSIM solution came during the early stages of Rubik Hub. We realized that while prepaid recharges could solve short-term problems for users, the growing demand for flexible, global connectivity required a more innovative approach. We saw an opportunity in eSIM technology, which allows users to purchase mobile data without the need for a physical SIM card, offering a more streamlined and cost-effective way to stay connected while traveling.

The decision to pivot wasn’t easy, but it was one of the best moves we made. It allowed us to enter a rapidly growing market with a product that addresses real pain points for international travelers. Rubik Hub gave us the tools and the network we needed to explore this new direction with confidence.

Continuing Our Journey with Rubik Garage

Our experience at Rubik Hub was so enriching that, by fall 2024, we decided to join their advanced program, Rubik Garage. This decision was fueled by our desire to keep growing and refining WeReload, especially as we started gaining traction in the market. Rubik Garage offered us an even more intensive program, helping us scale our operations, expand our user base, and develop new features for the app.

As Alin Bucsai puts it: “Rubik Hub was just the beginning. After completing the program and winning ‘Best Startup,’ we knew we wanted to continue this journey with Rubik Garage. The accelerator provided us with the resources and mentorship to keep improving our product and growing as a startup.”

Looking Ahead

Rubik Hub was more than just an accelerator for WeReload—it was a transformative experience that reshaped our vision and helped us build a stronger, more focused team. The mentorship we received, combined with the recognition of winning the “Best Startup” award, gave us the momentum to push forward with our eSIM solution. Today, our app is live on both Google Play and App Store, and we’ve surpassed 10,000 downloads.

As we continue our journey with Rubik Garage, we remain committed to evolving WeReload and offering travelers around the world an affordable, flexible way to stay connected. The lessons we learned at Rubik Hub will stay with us as we scale our business and continue to innovate in the global connectivity space.

Andrei adds: “Rubik Hub wasn’t just about building a product—it was about building a sustainable business. The pivot to eSIM was a challenging yet rewarding process, and without Rubik Hub’s guidance, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

With the support of Rubik Hub and Rubik Garage, WeReload is ready for the next phase of its journey, and we look forward to bringing even more value to our users as we expand our product and reach.
